Ah, here we are again—another International Women’s Day, another day of speeches, hashtags, and corporate pinkwashing. But how can we celebrate when women’s rights across the world are under attack?
Women are being massacred in Gaza, Sudan, and the Congo. Their bodies, their lives, their voices—silenced. And here in Europe, our rights are being chipped away bit by bit. Poland’s abortion ban is killing women. Italy is tightening control over reproductive rights. The UK is making it harder for people to give birth safely, to access maternal care, to parent with dignity. All while the usual white male politicians keep making policies to control us.
As a doula, I see every day how the fight for reproductive justice isn’t just about politics—it’s about real people, real births, real trauma, and real joy. It’s about birth rights. It’s about bodily autonomy. And that’s exactly what they’re trying to take from us.
But we won’t let them.
Women’s health, birth justice, and human rights are not up for debate. Women have always resisted, always fought back, always built community even in the hardest times. Today isn’t just about celebrating us—it’s about standing together, speaking out, and refusing to be silenced.
Because none of us are free until all of us are.
